The official opening of Shaws Department Store in Castlebar took place Monday 22nd January with Mr. Enda Kenny TD cutting the ribbon. Since the opening of the store in October, over 70 jobs have been created in-store.

Speaking at the opening, Jonathan Shaw, Managing Director of the Shaw Group said "We are delighted that our Shaws Castlebar Store has proven to be such a success. We would like to thank the people of Castlebar and County Mayo for their ongoing support. We also want to acknowledge the tremendous work carried out by our Castlebar Staff. We look forward to growing our business and catering for the people of Castlebar with the extensive range of top brands and concessions that Shaws are renowned for."

With 22,000 sq. feet of bright, modern retail space, Shaws of Castlebar hosts a number of high quality brands including Waterford Crystal, Newbridge Silverware, Triumph, Playtex, Douglas, Kartel, Levis, Clarks and Ecco. As part of the retail experience at Shaws of Castlebar, the store also hosts a number of premium concession brands including Principles, Bay, Windsmoor, Adams Kids, Dash, Eastex, Evans and Jacques Vert.

Rev. Gary Hastings and Fr. Michael Farragher performed the blessing of the store followed by lunch in the TF Royal Hotel. Other guests included Deputy Mayor, Castlebar Town Council, Eugene McCormack; Cathaoirleach, Mayo County Council, Gerry Coyle; County Manager, Desmond Mahon and other dignitaries.
